Elementary Education: Sample Transfer Plan

Subject
Program Code
GEN.AA.B50, Major B60

The following curriculum is designed to satisfy the basic lower division requirements for elementary education majors at senior institutions. Students are encouraged to complete their Associate in Arts degree with an emphasis in Elementary Education prior to transfer. If you have chosen a transfer institution, consult them to make course selections. Students should consult with their transfer institution as early as possible in their program to determine the course choices preferred by that institution. Students enrolling in this curriculum are urged to meet with an academic advisor each semester to review course selections and transfer plans. A non-western culture class is required by most institutions.

  • Examine the roles and the importance of including students with disabilities, as appropriate, and all team members in planning individualized education programs (i.e, IEP, IFSP, Section 504 plan) for students with disabilities.
  • Observe educators working with students in the Pk-12 classroom environment.
  • Reflect on the classroom techniques and strategies used by local educators.
  • Evaluate best practices and research-based materials against benchmarks within the disciplines.
  • Research the tools and knowledge related to latest findings (e.g., research, practice, methodologies) and technologies in the disciplines.
  • Examine how teaching and student learning is influenced by development (physical, social and emotional, cognitive, linguistic), past experiences, talents, prior knowledge, economic circumstances and diversity within the community.
