Course Description
This course is an introduction to the concept of religion as religion. Special emphasis is given to the legitimacy of the religious experience in the modern world. Both religious and naturalistic approaches to the subject will be explored. IAI: H4 905.
Prerequisite(s)
Appropriate assessment score or ENGL 1422 with a grade of C or better - Must be completed prior to taking this course.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Analyze religious beliefs, arguments for and against those beliefs, and the nature of religious experience.
  • Evaluate philosophical issues, such as the existence of God, the problem of evil, and the nature of religious experience.
  • Evaluate the historical and cultural factors that shape religious philosophies, and how religion relates to societal issues.
  • Construct strong arguments to defend their own views in an atmosphere open to disagreement and critique.
