The Air Conditioning and Refrigeration curriculum prepares technicians to design, layout, install, repair and maintain commercial and domestic refrigeration units, air conditioning and heating systems, and related environmental units. Students enrolling in AIRC courses will be required to furnish a set of tools for their own use. Air Conditioning and Refrigeration graduates are generally prepared to enter air conditioning programs at selected colleges and universities with junior status.
- Basic understanding of laws of thermodynamics, gas laws, heat transfer methods, fluid mechanics regarding liquid and vapor in closed piping systems.
- Comprehension and correct application of safety standards & practices regarding pressure vessels, both flammable & non-flammable, recovery systems and leak detection, sheet metal production machines, rotating machines/drives and electrical safety and its’ associated tools.
- Comprehension and evaluative skills of major and ancillary components of various low, medium and high temperature refrigeration systems.
- Comprehension and evaluative skills of combustion process and components within forced air and hydronic heating systems.
- Comprehension and evaluative skills in programmable logic controllers, actuators, and computerized control systems for fluid and vapor flow systems.
