At the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Analyze and demonstrate the concepts of radiographic special procedures and surgical procedures including preparation, procedural and equipment requirements, and post-procedural instructions.
- Comprehend the role of the radiographer in patient education with advanced imaging modalities.
- Describe the components, standards, and implications of informed consent in regards to special procedures and advanced imaging modalities.
- Describe the importance of standard precautions and isolation procedures, including sources and modes of transmission of infection and disease and institutional control procedures.
- Evaluate the specific contrast media used during specialized imaging examinations and various modalities with associated contraindications, precautions, and reactions.
- Identify radiographic procedures and interventional techniques appropriate for diseases common to each body system.
- Examine basic Computed Tomography (CT) concepts, compare CT to other imaging modalities as a means of diagnosis, and evaluate exams most commonly performed.
- Identify the uses of advanced imaging modalities and how they correlate with studies completed in diagnostic imaging.
- Identify the gross anatomical structures for location and identification in axial (transverse), sagittal, coronal, and 3-dimensional planes.
