Course Description
Students will participate in programmed clinical experiences within the radiology departments of area hospitals.
Prerequisite(s)
XRAY 1042, XRAY 1053, XRAY 1232, and XRAY 1326 - Must be completed prior to taking this course. XRAY 2212 - Must be taken at the same time as this course.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Produce under direct supervision with minimal amount of assistance from a registered Radiologic Technologist, quality radiographs of one exam from each of the following categories; Spine, Thorax, Abdomen with contrast, Cerebral and Visceral Cranium, Upper and Lower Extremities, and Abdomen to meet 75% of the competency evaluation criteria.
  • Practice proper radiation protection responsibilities for radiography personnel, patients, and the public.
  • Develop an understanding of patients, patients’ families, and professional peers diverse backgrounds due to their value system, cultural and ethnic influences, communication styles socioeconomic influences, health risks, and life stages.
  • Manage confidentiality of patients, their radiographs, and pertinent patient information as enforced by HIPPA.
  • Identify basic knowledge of surgical radiographic examinations.
  • Observe basic care and use of the C-Arm.
  • Develop an understanding of contrast media protocols and adverse reactions.
  • Prepare contrast media to be utilized in Gastrointestinal Radiography and Urography studies.
  • Produce under indirect supervision of a registered Radiologic Technologist quality radiographs of previous examinations that competency status was achieved.
  • Produce under direct supervision with assistance from a registered Radiologic Technologists quality radiographs select exams to complete requirements of a pre-clinical competences (Pre-COE)
  • Interpret diagnostic reports utilizing medical terminology pertinent to radiographic imaging.
  • Employ the principles, practices, and policies of the health care organization and the responsibilities of the radiographer.
  • Apply comprehension of the philosophical basis of ethics and proper ethical behavior.
  • Administer proper patient care including physical and psychological needs of the patient and their family.
  • Apply the factors that influence the production and recording of radiographic images.
  • Operate radiographic, fluoroscopic, mobile, and tomographic equipment.
