Course Description
This course consists of supervised clinical training and is taken simultaneously with MEDT 2326. Students must have a criminal background check without any disqualifying convictions and a negative drug screen prior to enrollment.
Prerequisite(s)
MEDT 1014, MEDT 1104, MEDT 1124, MEDT 1224, MEDT 2044 and MEDT 2214 with a grade of C or better - Must be completed prior to taking this course. MEDT 2326 - Must be taken at the same time as this course.
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe or demonstrate an understanding of the application of appropriate laboratory testing in all clinical areas of the laboratory. This includes knowledge of the relationship of test results with disease and non-disease states.
- Perform appropriate laboratory testing in all clinical areas of the laboratory using proper safety techniques. This includes knowledge of the principle of the test, specimen type, reagent/equipment, quality control, procedure requirements, sources of error, data interpretation, and recording of results.
- Perform routine maintenance on instruments and follow troubleshooting procedures for analyzer and/or reagent problems.
- Utilize computers (with supervision) to display and communicate results or information.
- Demonstrate professional conduct, interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work well with other team members.
