Course Description

The student will participate in respiratory therapy situations emphasizing patient assessment, oxygen therapy, bronchial hygiene skills, and aerosol medications. Each student in this course must have a physical exam, criminal background check without any disqualifying convictions and a negative drug screen.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Report pertinent clinical information using the medical record, patient interview, and physical assessment.
  • Observe infection control procedures according to facility policies.
  • Practice all assigned respiratory therapy procedures competently.
  • Assess the appropriateness of the prescribed respiratory care plan
  • Describe respiratory procedures to patients based on their level of comprehension
