Course Description
The student will be able to explain the principles of design of weldments, weldability of metals, welding defects, weld testing and inspection, and preheating and post-heating. The student also will weld various joint designs in the vertical and overhead projections using a variety of electrodes.
Prerequisite(s)
WELD 1114 with a grade of C or better - Must be completed prior to taking this course.
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Recognize and understand American Welding Society basic welding symbols
- Weld in the flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions
- Set parameters for given electrodes and positions using the SMAW process
- Recognize and solve shield metal arc welding discontinuities
- Understand carbon and alloyingagents and their affect on a given weldment
- Pass visual prior to destructive test will test on 3rd test attempt prior to moving on to next position.
