At the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Correctly pronouncing Spanish sounds, words, and phonemic patterns.
- Conversant in elementary topics of everyday situations in the Spanish language.
- Use proper syntax and semantics in written journals in Spanish.
- Read and understand elementary Spanish texts.
- Understand various aspects of Spanish culture and community.
1) Greeting people; spelling and alphabet; giving and understanding numerical information 0-30; introducing yourself; likes and dislikes; how to tell time
2) At the University/En la Universidad: identifying people, places and things; talking about academic subjects; Subject Pronouns; gender articles and plural forms; expressing actions; asking yes/ no questions; Present tense –AR verbs and ESTAR
3) Family/La Familia: Talking about family. learning adjectives ; their gender, number and position in sentences; nationalities; the verb SER, contraction DEL; possessive adjectives and Present tense of ER and IR verbs
4) Shopping/ De Compras: Pointing out People and Things; demonstrative adjectives, verbs tener, venir, poder, preferir, querer and tener idioms; Expressing future actions with Ir + a _ infinitive.
5) At home/ En Casa : Expressing actions hacer, oír, poner, salir, traer; expressing actions with stem changing verbs; expressive –self or selves reflexive pronouns.
6) Seasons and weather/ Las Estaciones y el Tiempo. Talking about weather; present rpgressive, ser vs. estar; describing comparisons
7) : Let's Eat/ ¡A Comer! Talking about food; Direct objects/ Pronouns; acabar de; expressing negation; Influencing others with formal commands.
