Course Description
The course will consist of a study of traffic law enforcement; traffic regulation and control; traffic accident investigation and prevention; and the relationship of road engineering to safety. Also included will be a review of the Illinois Vehicle Code.
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Explain the Illinois Driving Under the Influence law.
- Discuss new types of computer software which assist accident investigation.
- Explain the importance of courtroom testimony in auto accident cases.
- Explain how to use the Illinois Vehicle Code.
- Discuss the different sections that make up the Accident Division in large city police department.
- Explain the different types of DUI field tests.
- Discuss the different stages of intoxication.
- Explain the three basic principles of traffic control.
- Discuss the do’s and don’ts of vehicle stops.
- Distinguish between the different types of auto thefts.
- Explain under what circumstances a high-speed pursuit may be justified.
- Discuss the methods of determining minimum speed from skid marks.
- Explain the reasons for accident investigation.
