Course Description
The course is designed to prepare the practical nursing student to care for persons during the normal childbearing cycle, children during the neonatal period, and individuals throughout the life cycle. Emphasis is placed on organizing care for a group of clients.
Prerequisite(s)
PNUR 1140, PNUR 1262, and BIOL 1564 or both BIOL 2644 and BIOL 2654 - Must be completed prior to taking this course.
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Examine practices within the definition of a Licensed Practical Nurse as contained in the Nurse Practice Act.
- Implement effective verbal, nonverbal, and written communication with clients, families and health care team members.
- Utilize the nursing process to deliver safe and effective care to clients throughout the life span.
- Organize a caring, person-centered environment where client choices related to cultural values, beliefs, and lifestyle are respected.
- Demonstrate effective utilization of resources to meet client needs.
- Relate evidence-based research findings to nursing care and clinical decision-making.
