Appropriate assessment score or ENGL 1422 with a grade of C or better - Must be taken either prior to or at the same time as this course.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Give evidence of having mastered the patterns of pronunciation and the concepts of linking and intonation
  • Use course vocabulary and idiomatic expressions in written work and in conversation.
  • Apply the basic grammar principles for gender and number; adjective agreement and position; word order patterns for statements and questions; etc.
  • Use numbers in ordinary usage and in saying dates
  • Read and comprehend basic selections in French and adapt or utilize the content of reading materials in guided conversational situations using correct basic grammar and comprehensible pronunciation
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the geography, history, and culture of French-speaking people in written work and by participating in class discussions.
