Course Description
This course consists of supervised clinical training and is taken simultaneously with MEDT 2316. A minimum grade of 70 percent for each departmental evaluation, and 75 percent for each departmental exam must be attained to successfully pass the practicum and graduate from the program.
Prerequisite(s)
MEDT 2214 and MEDT 2044 - Must be completed prior to taking this course. MEDT 2316 - Must be taken at the same time as this course.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Describe or demonstrate an understanding of the application of appropriate laboratory testing in all clinical areas of the laboratory. This includes knowledge of the relationship of test results with disease and non-disease states.
  • Perform appropriate laboratory testing in all clinical areas of the laboratory using proper safety techniques. This includes knowledge of the principle of the test, specimen type, reagent/equipment, quality control, procedure requirements, sources of error, data interpretation, and recording of results.
  • Perform routine maintenance on instruments and follow troubleshooting procedures for analyzer and/or reagent problems.
  • Utilize computers (with supervision) to display and communicate results or information.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct, interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work well with other team members.
