Course Description
The foundational skills and knowledge learned in SIGN 1513 and SIGN 1523 continue in this course. Emphasis will be on the expansion and refinement of comprehension, production, and interactional skills. Students will also learn more complex grammatical abilities through expressive and receptive narratives and dialogues.
Prerequisite(s)
SIGN 1523 - Must be completed with a grade of C or better prior to taking this course.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Comprehend and express oneself with developing beginning intermediate ASL vocabulary and correct grammar in person and through digital technologies.
  • Engage, debate and exchange information and perspectives on topics of Deaf culture and related products in group settings successfully at a beginning-intermediate level.
  • Engage in discussion and exchange more information and perspectives on topics of other disciplines in person and group settings.
  • Compare and contrast students’ languages and cultures with those of Deaf communities on grammatical and discourse structures, and cultural products, practices and perspectives at beginning-intermediate level.
  • Ability to articulate and demonstrate beginning-intermediate grammatical features that make ASL a complex human language.
  • Engage and converse information and share perspectives with the Deaf community members at the beginning-intermediate level.
