Course Description
Students will receive an introduction to surveying, construction, electricity, and small engines. Specific topics will include slope measurement, structural design, fundamentals of electrical flow, and principles of engine and equipment systems operation. This course will also teach irrigation system concepts, equipment, design, troubleshooting, and repair. Emphasis will be on residential design systems. Golf Course systems will be introduced.
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Practice basic shop safety and procedures
- Identify, select, and use various hand tools and specialized equipment
- Describe and/or demonstrate the theory, operation, maintenance, and repair of small gas engines—including two- and four-cycle, and diesel engines
- Maintain and repair compact power equipment common in the landscape and sports field maintenance industry
- Describe and/or demonstrate the theory and practice of basic electrical systems
- Explain the concepts of irrigation—including hydraulics, pressure, velocity, and flow
