Course Description
The purpose of this course is to: 1) develop a knowledge of the materials used in landscape construction; 2) develop an understanding of the selection criteria for common construction materials; 3) develop the ability to estimate the quantity of construction materials required for construction; 4) develop the ability to estimate the cost of landscape construction projects; 5) learn and practice basic construction techniques; and 6) learn and demonstrate appropriate safety practices.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Select construction materials and features that complement the landscape.
  • Select and use recommended construction techniques for various landscape features.
  • Develop a cost estimation for labor, equipment, overhead, and profit to construct a landscape plan.
  • Develop sequential steps for installing a landscape project.
  • Follow safety practices ascribed to by industry.
  • Make recommendations for installing and maintaining landscape plant materials.
  • Identify and interpret landscape symbols on a plan.
  • Develop an electronic spreadsheet for preparing a construction estimate.
  • Prepare common contracts used in the landscape industry
