Course Description
This course focuses on the concerns of the practices of international trade professionals. It is designed to form a sound foundation and understanding of the major factors affecting the global marketplace. Students will build exporting and importing skills and an understanding of the methods and procedures of importing and exporting products. All of the major concepts and terminology of international trade will be addressed through hands-on activities and topic papers. Emphasis will be on practical details, and case histories will be studied.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Understand the terminology used in the import/export of goods and services.
  • Insure an understanding of the basic knowledge of the documents used in import/export and their usage.
  • Identify foreign markets for importing and exporting opportunities.
  • Be capable of analyzing the import/export potential of a product or service.
  • Learn about the various organizations and other sources available to assist individuals and organizations in their efforts to import/export goods and services.
  • Be knowledgeable about the documentation needs and requirements of international trade.
  • Learn the basic principles of international finance, including exchange rates, letters of credit and wire transfers.
  • Assess and utilize all elements of the international distribution environment as needed to facilitate international trade.
  • Understand the procedures and documentation required to comply with Homeland Security policies as they relate to the import of foreign goods and products.
