Course Description
This course is designed for students in an Army ROTC program and introduces Cadets to the personal challenges and competencies that are critical for effective leadership. Cadets learn how the personal development of life skills such as critical thinking, time management, goal setting, and communication. Cadets learn the basics of the communications process and the importance for leaders to develop the essential skills to effectively communicate in the Army. Cadets will begin learning the basics of squad level tactics that will be reinforced during a weekly lab facilitated by MS III Cadets, supervised by MS IVs and Cadre.
Prerequisite(s)
MSCI 1513 - Must be completed prior to taking this course.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • 1. Explain the organization of an Infantry rifle squad fire team and the roles and responsibilities of each team member.
  • 2. Describe the three Individual Movement Techniques (IMT) implemented while moving under direct fire.
  • 3. Demonstrate an understanding of how and when to apply the various team movement formations.
  • 4. Identify the five (5) Principles of Patrolling.
  • 5. Employ basic Hand and Arm Signals
  • 6. Apply the Characteristics of Critical Thinkers and the Eight Elements of Thought.
  • 7. Explain the concepts and practices applicable to AT Level I Awareness.
  • 8. Identify issues with Personal Identifiable Information (PII)
  • 9. Implement effective communication strategies.
  • 10. Describe ways to improve interpersonal communication
  • 11. Describe the Rhetorical Triangle and appeals to Ethos, Logos, and Pathos.
  • 12. Explain the five Dimensions of R2 and how they are integrated throughout the Soldier Lifecycle.
  • 13. Apply R2 Performance and resilience Enhancement skills in a simulated situation.
  • 14. Identify the Performance Triad Targets and areas for individual improvement.
