Course Description
This course provides an overview of chemical process industries and chemical technology with focus on the role of the process operator and technician. It includes concepts of safety, regulation, laws affecting the job and the industry, and quality control.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Define what process industries do
  • Describe the difference between work group and teams
  • Describe the purpose and function of process system drawings
  • Describe the purpose and function of piping and valves in process industries
  • Describe the purpose and function of vessels and reactors in process industries
  • Describe the purpose and function of pumps and compressors in process industries
  • List and describe the different turbines and how they work
  • Describe the purpose and function of heat exchangers in process industries
  • Describe the purpose and function of cooling towers in process industries
  • Describe the purpose and function of furnaces and boilers in process industries
  • Describe the purpose and function of control instrumentation in process industries
