FREN 1514 with a grade of C or better - Must be completed prior to taking this course.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Give evidence of having mastered the patterns of pronunciation and the concepts of linking and intonation
  • Conjugate the most common regular and irregular verbs in the present and the imperfect tenses and use them to form sentences.
  • Use the vocabulary and iditic expressions studied in both written and oral work.
  • Apply the basic grammar principles for gender and number; adjective agreement and position; word order patterns for statements and questions; comparative and superlative statements; formation and usage of the imperative, etc.
  • Use numbers in ordinary usage as well as in telling time and dates.
  • Use direct object pronouns in speaking and writing.
  • Use prepositions (including à and de) appropriately
  • Adapt or utilize the content of reading materials in guided conversational situations.
  • Show understanding of the geography, history, and culture of French-speaking people by participating in class discussions and through written exams
