Course Description

The student will employ Boolean Algebra, binary number system, and Logic Converter to solve logic problems. He or she will use the flip-flops, AND gates, OR gates, NAND gates, and NOR gates to create logic circuits. Basic components and a scientific calculator must be purchased by the student.

Prerequisite(s)

ELTR 1004; MATH 1103 or higher-level math course, or one year high school algebra with a grade of C or better, or appropriate assessment score; or consent of the instructor - Must be taken either prior to or at the same time as this course.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Define number systems.
  • Explain operation and applications of 555 timers.
  • Define basic logic gates and universal gates.
  • Understand principles of combining logic gates.
  • Define interfacing.
  • Use encoders and decoders.
  • Describe uses of flip flops.
  • Define and operate with counters.
  • Define and operate with shift registers.
  • Define A/D and D/A interfaces.
