Course Description
The student will employ Boolean Algebra, binary number system, and Logic Converter to solve logic problems. He or she will use the flip-flops, AND gates, OR gates, NAND gates, and NOR gates to create logic circuits. Basic components and a scientific calculator must be purchased by the student.
Prerequisite(s)
ELTR 1004; MATH 1103 or higher-level math course, or one year high school algebra with a grade of C or better, or appropriate assessment score; or consent of the instructor - Must be taken either prior to or at the same time as this course.
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Define number systems.
- Explain operation and applications of 555 timers.
- Define basic logic gates and universal gates.
- Understand principles of combining logic gates.
- Define interfacing.
- Use encoders and decoders.
- Describe uses of flip flops.
- Define and operate with counters.
- Define and operate with shift registers.
- Define A/D and D/A interfaces.
