Course Description
The course will consist of a study of traffic law enforcement; traffic regulation and control; traffic accident investigation and prevention; and the relationship of road engineering to safety. Also included will be a review of the Illinois Vehicle Code.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Explain the Illinois Driving Under the Influence law.
  • Discuss new types of computer software which assist accident investigation.
  • Explain the importance of courtroom testimony in auto accident cases.
  • Explain how to use the Illinois Vehicle Code.
  • Discuss the different sections that make up the Accident Division in large city police department.
  • Explain the different types of DUI field tests.
  • Discuss the different stages of intoxication.
  • Explain the three basic principles of traffic control.
  • Discuss the do’s and don’ts of vehicle stops.
  • Distinguish between the different types of auto thefts.
  • Explain under what circumstances a high-speed pursuit may be justified.
  • Discuss the methods of determining minimum speed from skid marks.
  • Explain the reasons for accident investigation.
