Course Description

This course introduces students to principles of graphic design and production while creating documents using industry standard software, Adobe InDesign®. Students gain understanding of the relationship between type, illustration, and photographs in a layout. Students will design documents such as brochures, advertisements, greeting cards, fliers, and magazine covers. This class is geared toward the cultivation of work for inclusion in the student's final portfolio.

Prerequisite(s)

COGT 1213 or consent of instructor - Must be completed prior to taking this course.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Recognize the InDesign workspace
  • Implement design principles and copyright rules
  • Create a multi-page document with custom settings
  • Implement master pages for use in multiple documents
  • Create layers, text frames, and graphic frames for marketing materials
  • Input, edit and flow text in a document
  • Apply color, styles and effects to graphics
  • Demonstrate proper printing and exporting methods
  • Create a PDF with form fields
  • Design a working EPUB for the web
  • Demonstrate using a Wacom tablet with Adobe InDesign
