Course Description
The student will identify components of the automotive secondary ignition system, describe principles of operation and perform operational tests on this system. The student also will use and interpret test instruments designed for diagnosing those systems.
Prerequisite(s)
AUTO 1073 - Must be completed prior to taking this course.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify the difference between electrical and electronic systems.
  • Understand the function of different ignition systems and their related components.
  • Perform electrical and electronic diagnosis of ignition electrical systems utilizing wiring diagnosis.
  • Perform voltage drops, resistance and amperage testing on related ignition and electrical systems and their related components.
  • Apply appropriate techniques to safely and accurately use a Digital Volt-Ohm Meter (DVOM) for electrical testing, analyze test results, and demonstrate proficiency to earn the NC3 DVOM Certification.
