Course Description

The student will describe the basic systems in gasoline engines. He or she will identify the components of systems and explain principles of operation, maintenance, repair, and adjustment of these engines. From shop experiences, the student will acquire basic engine teardown and reassembly skills.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Complete the appropriate NATEF tasks as outlined in the Engine Repair NATEF Standard Job Sheet work book (disassemble and reassemble an automotive engine)
  • Demonstrate basic engine theory
  • Practice classroom and lab safety
  • Use PMI equipment as a diagnostic aid to determined conditions of engine components
  • Explain engine types and designs
  • Diagnose engine noises
