Course Description
This course is a continuation of SIGN 2523, focusing on comprehension and production skills including complex grammar, short stories, narratives, and interactive use of American Sign Language as well as the rich aspects of American Sign Language Literature. Students will continue an in-depth study of the Deaf community and the global Deaf culture.
Prerequisite(s)
SIGN 2523 - Must be completed with a grade of C or better prior to taking this course.
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Comprehend and express oneself with intermediate ASL vocabulary and correct grammar in person and through digital technologies.
- Engage, debate and exchange information and perspectives on topics of Deaf culture and related products in group settings successfully at the intermediate level.
- Engage in discussion and exchange more information and perspectives on topics of other disciplines in person and group settings.
- Compare and contrast students’ languages and cultures with those of Deaf communities on grammatical and discourse structures, and cultural products, practices and perspectives at the intermediate level.
- Articulate and demonstrate intermediate grammatical features that make ASL a complex human language.
