Course Description
The purpose of this course is to 1) introduce the student to the employment options in the horticulture industry; 2) develop the student's ability to apply the biological concepts of plant structure and function to horticulture practices; 3) develop the student's use of the horticulture terminology; and 4) have the student perform basic horticultural tasks.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Select and analyze a horticulture occupation.
  • Learn and use industry trade periodicals and sources of information.
  • Describe plant classification systems in use.
  • Identify plant structures and relationships to horticulture.
  • Describe plant function and its relationship to horticulture.
  • Describe environmental manipulations employed in plant production.
  • Explain physical manipulations of plants used in plant production.
  • Identify commonly used horticulture plants.
  • Accomplish basic horticulture tasks used in plant production.
  • Use proper safety practices while accomplishing horticultural tasks.
